LETTERS: Update from the mayor

To The Editor:

I want to thank those who responded to the one-day-a-week trash pickup survey. I hope more people will drop into the city office and take a minute to answer the survey and give comments. You can even call me or Becky at the city office to respond.

Everyone who came downtown Friday evening for “Friday Night Fever” enjoyed themselves. This event was one of the best efforts of community business unity I’ve seen. Maybe something like it can happen again soon if you let the chamber of commerce know you enjoyed it.

Doug Kjellin’s hay rack rides were a big hit with the kids. I dropped in where the kids were enjoying a sample of what a youth center might provide. Thanks to the committee who organized it.

Have you visited the museum this summer? The air conditioning is great! Go in and enjoy what Cynthia has done for the museum. I miss seeing Jack’s smiling face.

I hope you read the article in the Aug. 20 issue of the Marion County Record about the Elgin Hotel. The Cloutiers and the community will have something of which to be proud. I have looked in on the project several times. I can hardly believe the transformation.

Continue to enjoy the park this summer. The park committee volunteers and the city crew have really made it shine. My name was “Mud” with the city workers when they replaced the rocks at the springs, but it was another great job done on a very hot day. Thanks, guys! You are to be commended for taking the time to maintain the beauty of the park that has long been one of the attractions of the town.

If you missed the open house of the sports complex, I hope you can see it soon. I was told the Warrior head is the second-largest in the state.

I missed Ryan Newell’s homecoming, but it sounds like there was a nice group of visitors. He was given the best welcome home possible. The VFW and American Legion groups have really been doing a great job welcoming home our military men and women. Hope you can make it to the next one.

Last of all, I hope you were able to see some great baseball talent shown by the 12-year-olds at the Cal Ripken tournament. All those I met and talked to were really impressed with Marion’s hospitality. Having seen the boys play made me tune in to the Little League tournament on TV.
