Local vet opens pet hotel

Staff writer

Dogs that need a place to stay while their owners are away can spend time at a brand-new boarding space at Spur Ridge Veterinary Hospital in Marion designed to provide them with fun and comfort.

“I saw the demand for overnight care of pets, and we had outgrown our existing kennels,” Veterinarian Brendan Kraus said.

A new 40-by-60-foot metal building, which matches the vet hospital at 901 Industrial, has 21 kennels and a few cages. Fifteen kennels have 14-foot artificial turf runs with pet doors that allow dogs access to a covered porch, Kraus said.

Some kennels have a door between them, so two or more dogs can spend time together, if owners want that.

The kennels have glass fronts and are easy to clean, he said. A fenced yard allows dogs some off-the-leash playtime.

The new building also has an area for bathing and grooming with a window that allows owners to watch their pets being taken care of from the lobby.

Dog runs were being finished Monday – one of the final touches being made to the building which is open for business.
