Lucille Meirowsky
Marion County native Lucille Verena Meirowsky, 92, died Aug. 7 at Parkside Homes, Hillsboro.
She was born Sept. 27, 1917, in Marion County, to Leo Charles and Josephine Mary (Wegerer) Winkley. She graduated from Marion High School in 1935. She also graduated from Kansas State Teachers College.
On Feb. 12, 1938, she married Guy Meirowsky at Spring Branch Church in Marion County.
She taught in Marion County rural schools including Merry-Go-Round, Finch, Weaver, and Nusbaum. She then taught at Peabody Elementary School for 26 years, retiring in 1984.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Newton.
Her husband died in 1986.
Survivors include a son, Maurice of Peabody; daughter Jeanine Beauchamp of Hutchinson; four grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
The rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 106 E. Eighth St., Newton. Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Newton.
Memorials have been established with the church and Peabody-Burns Alumni Scholarship Fund in care of Peterson Funeral Home, 215 N Main St, Newton KS 67114.
