Lucy Hughes

Lucy P. Hughes, 97, died April 8 at Asbury Park in Newton. She was born March 19, 1917, in Tampa to John and Gertrude Hutchison Pleiser.

She grew up and attended school in Tampa, graduating from high school in 1935. She was bookkeeper and office manager for a piano and organ company in California for many years.

She served in the Navy Reserves during the Korean War. She moved back to Kansas in 1989.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Hughes, in 1957, two brothers, and five sisters.

She is survived by a daughter, Catherine Dennis of Hutchinson; three grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass was Monday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Tampa. Interment followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Tampa.
