MAC changes name at fundraiser

Staff writer

Marion Advancement Campaign’s annual fundraiser Saturday saw the non-profit rebrand itself as “Marion Community Foundation.”

“Nobody seemed to know what it meant, so they decided to change it,” board member Gene Winkler.

Chairman Matt Meyerhoff explained further.

“We’ve shifted away from doing action to supporting community actions,” he said. “We’re here to support those in the community.”

The fundraiser took place at Marion Community Center. Entertainment came from two dueling pianists and a drummer, who took song requests from the audience.

“I think everyone that attended had a great time,” organizer Emily Kennedy said.

Winkler estimated 130 people. He was unsure how much money was raised.

“Not as much as last year,” he said.

Meyerhoff and Kennedy also were unable to provide specifics.

“We haven’t finalized our numbers yet,” Kennedy said. “We still have donations coming in.”
