Main St. on track to be ready for Art in the Park

City Administrator Doug Kjellin told Marion City Council members Monday that Main St. work is still on track to be completed before Art in the Park.
“The rain put us a little behind, but because crews started with ample time, and it only takes about an hour for the asphalt to cool, we still anticipate the work to be completed before the deadline,” he said.
Kjellin said rain has caused some delays, but expects crews to have asphalt started as soon as the pad dries.
As of Tuesday morning, crews began paving intersections and side streets. Today, crews will begin paving Main St., beginning at Elm and working West.
“The plan is by Thursday night the paving should be done,” said EBH engineer Darin Neufeld. “For this weekend we will have smooth black top, but no stripes, unless some unforeseen weather comes our way, but the forecast looks clear so far.”
The millings from Main St. were mixed with gravel and used to fill potholes around the town. A layer was also spread on Marion Central Park’s parking lot.
