Man arrested on drug, juvenile charges

A 24-year-old Marion man was arrested on multiple drug charges and charges related to juveniles after a traffic stop at 8:14 p.m. Friday in Marion.

A gray 2021 Chrysler 300 was stopped for having window tint too dark at Main St. and Eisenhower Dr. by sheriff’s deputy Josh Meliza.

Smelling the odor of marijuana coming from the car, Meliza called for backup.

After deputy Matt Regier joined Meliza, driver James R. Spohn, 24, Marion, was arrested on suspicion of possessing stimulants, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia and distribution of marijuana or a hallucinogen.

He also was accused of conspiracy to contribute to a child’s misconduct and of furnishing tobacco products to a person too young to legally purchase them.

Undersheriff Larry Starkey said Spohn had a gram or less of methamphetamine and marijuana. He also had vape cartridges with nicotine and liquid THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. Starkey said Spohn admitted giving vape cartridges to three underage girls who were with him in the car.

Spohn was taken to county jail, where he was held in lieu of $15,000 bond. His car was towed.

The girls in the car were held for parents to arrive, Starkey said.
