Man flees after attacking woman

Man gets angry over music - hits, chokes, pushes woman out of moving vehicle

Deputies are looking to find a 47-year-old Peabody man who fled Thursday after an altercation with his 38-year-old girlfriend on Pawnee Rd.

Undersheriff David Huntley said the incident took place as the couple drove north on Pawnee Rd. toward a shed they rent for storage at 1160 Pawnee Rd.

Huntley said the man became angry when the woman tried to change the radio station as they drove.

“He choked her and tried to shove her out of the moving vehicle,” Huntley said.

The man stopped the pickup and hit her in the head, then pulled her out and attempted to choke her, he said.

“The way I understand it, she was afraid he was going to try to run over her, and she rolled into the ditch,” Huntley said.

The man drove north again and concealed the pickup and trailer in the shed they rented. Deputies searched the residential property, shed, and surrounding area, but were unable to locate him.

“If we would have found him there, he would have gone straight to jail,” Huntley said.

Emergency medical personnel tended the distraught woman at the scene and took her to St. Luke Hospital in Marion. She was bleeding from her arm when authorities arrived.

“She was safe and we knew who he was,” Huntley said. “We will get more than likely get a warrant for him.”

Huntley said deputies are trying to get the woman connected with domestic violence advocates, and recommended she file a petition seeking a protective order. “That way we have some leverage,” he said.
