Marijuana plants grow a tad too high

Marion police had a simple decision when they made an arrest Saturday after a complaint in the 700 block of N. Cedar St. that marijuana plants were being grown in a resident’s yard.
Police could see the marijuana plants growing in Bryan Grosse’s yard despite it being fenced in. While they weren’t visible from the road, the plants could be seen from a nearby property, Marion police chief Clinton Jeffrey said. Jeffrey’s own home is just three doors from there.
“Some of them were pretty tall,” he said. “They were over five feet tall. There were a couple big ones and a bunch of little ones. I don’t know the reasoning.”
The expectation is that the plants would not be grown in town, or at least that they would be kept out of sight, Jeffrey said.
“If it is in town, most of the time they’re inside,” he said.
Grosse, 39, of Marion, was arrested after police executed a search warrant and found a dozen marijuana plants, a bag of fertilizer, and a syringe.
He was arrested on suspicion of cultivating a controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
