MARION: 2 schools combine for girls golf
Centre, Marion field joint team
Staff writer
Three returning players and two newcomers from Marion will join with three players from Centre in a combined girls golf team this fall.
Mckinnon Waner, Haiti Schafers, and Caitlin Thornhill will continue for Marion along with Brooklyn Smith, Jorja Peterson, and Leah Brunner for Centre.
Newcomers Ella Mackey and Chylynn Watts from Marion round out the team.
“We spend a good amount of time focusing on the fundamentals of the game and practicing the short game inside of 30 yards and on the green,” coach Max Venable said.
He has worked as a school counselor in both districts.
The team won’t be solely about competition.
“I would expect our players to experience improvement in their abilities and knowledge on the golf course,” Venable said. “Most important, I want our players to learn, have fun, and enjoy their opportunity to be a part of our team.”
