Marion aquatics director steps down

News editor

USD 408 is looking for a new Sports and Aquatics Center director after Kylie Schroeder gave notice Monday of her intent to resign, just shy of her first anniversary in the position.

“We’ve got a couple of weeks here, and we hope to have a new director in place in time to transition from Kylie,” Superintendent Lee Leiker said. “We will do our best to make a seamless and painless transition for our patrons.”

Schroeder has accepted a position with Hannaford Abstract and Title, one she said will support long-term family plans.

“It was probably the best opportunity and timing,” she said. “We just felt like it was the right time.”

Schroeder said one of the accomplishments of which she is most pleased is the reintroduction of American Red Cross swim lessons. She also standardized and posted rules and created emergency response plans, she said. Leiker attributed an increase in center use to Schroeder’s efforts.

“It has been good, and it’s gotten even better with Kylie as director,” he said. “She’s enhanced the facility and done a great job of public relations. She’ll be difficult to replace.”

Leiker said he did not anticipate any changes in center hours or programming during the search for Schroeder’s replacement.
