Marion city workers avoided a worst-case scenario Monday after a water line cracked on S. Coble St.

“A crack is the easiest one to do,” interim streets director Tim Makovec said. “It was just a basic repair.”

Makovec was unsure what caused the issue but said the clean crack made a best-case scenario for repairs. He speculated it might have been caused by a ground-shift.

The city sent out phone calls that a portion of the south hill could lose water access, but crews did not end up having to turn water off.

“We never disrupted the service,” Makovec said. “That is the best because it keeps pushing out.”
