Marion baseball sweeps

The Marion baseball team faced a 5-2 deficit in the last frame of the first game in its senior night doubleheader.

From there, the Warriors would pull off a comeback in a marathon game before notching a mercy rule victory to sweep its penultimate doubleheader of the season.

Trevor Kruse, Dylan Pippin, and Nathan Baldwin provided the three necessary runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extras. Marion head coach Roger Schroeder put senior Bret Voth in to pitch, foregoing his chances of starting game two, and he carried the Warriors from the eighth inning on.

A fielder’s choice from Dakota Stimpson knocked in Mason Pedersen in the 12th to secure a 6-5 win.

In the second game, Marion scored early and often, with two runs in the first inning, three more in the second, and five in the fourth to amass a 10-2 lead. Marion rallied with two outs in the fifth to put in two clinching runs to secure a 12-2 mercy rule victory. Jared Barney knocked in Peyton Heidebrecht for the final run.

Marion is 12-6 as it heads into its final regular season doubleheader.
