Marion boys blow out Canton-Galva

News editor

The Marion Warriors boys’ basketball team jumped out to a 17-0 lead against Canton-Galva on Tuesday on the way to a 54-point victory over the Eagles. On four consecutive possessions in that 17-0 run, the Warriors scored a layup after stealing the ball from Canton-Galva.

The Eagles couldn’t handle the pressure by Marion, and Marion led 26-8 at the end of the first quarter. Jordan Hett had 10 points in the first 3 minutes, 23 seconds.

Jacob Harper took control for Marion in the second quarter, as the Warriors increased their lead to 51-14 at halftime. The Warriors were making layups, mid-range jumpers, runners, and three-pointers.

Marion led 66-22 after a relatively quiet third quarter. A running clock in the fourth quarter limited Marion’s scoring opportunities, but they kept up the pressure they’d put on Canton-Galva all game long. Zac Robson and Timothy Knolla both got into double figure scoring in the final quarter. Knolla made 4-of-5 three-pointers in the game, all from the same spot on the left wing.

Even Marion’s post players got involved in the fast break. Wiley Lundy scored the final basket on a layup after stealing the ball in the closing seconds of the game.

Scoring for Marion were Harper, 21; Jordan Hett, 16; Knolla, 12; Robson, 11; Lundy, 6; Ethan Hett, 5; Jacob Baldwin, 4; Taylor Heidebrecht, 2; Bret Voth, 2; and James Jones, 1.

Marion’s next game is Friday at Berean Academy in
Elbing.
