Marion boys win at Goessel meet

For the second year in a row, Marion’s boys cross-county team placed first at a Goessel meet Thursday in North Newton.

Luke Wessel was first out of 54 boys Thursday with a time of 16:39.39.

Gavin Wasmuth was right behind in second place, finishing with a time of 16:40.37.

Eli Klenda finished in fifth with a time of 17:37.81.

“I was very proud with the response from our high school runners this week,” coach Jason Hett said.

“We had a good week of training and it showed today.”

This Thursday, Marion runners will head to Hutchinson for the HOA league meet.

Goessel

“When you can run in a pack and you have a lot of straight-aways, you usually set fast times,” said Brian Lightner, the host for the Goessel Cross Country meet at Bethel College.

The Bluebird runners took advantage of the course on a comfortable day with Eli Gaeddert leading the Goessel boys team with a 6th place medal in a season best time of 17:45.69. Javin Schmidt earned 9th place.

For the Goessel girls, Delaney Gibson finished with her season best 23:53.16 and 14th place. Goessel will race Thusday at Harvey County West Park.

Centre

Kaitlynn Bina was the lone runner for Centre this week at the Goessel meet on Thursday in North Newton.

She placed sixth out of 25 girls with a time of 20:56.62.

Centre will have its league meet this Friday the 13th.

Hillsboro

Hillsboro was at the Sterling meet on Thursday where the girls placed fourth as a team overall out of six teams scored.

Quinlyn Funk won second place and Riley Richert won third.

Jaidyn Frantz came in 33rd place, Nora Hein in 47th place, Trudy Hein in 49th, with Mariah LaPlante in 50th place.

Grace Hein was the last to come in for the team in 52nd place.

Trojan boys didn’t fare as well. Casen Steinert placed 74th, Ben Werner placed 78th, and Gavin Bennett placed 80th.

The Trojans will travel to Pratt on Thursday for their next meet.
