Council candidates will speak to public

With city elections just around the corner on April 3, candidates for two seats on Marion City Council will participate in a public forum Sunday.

Jerry Dieter, Todd Heitschmidt, incumbent Steven Smith, Richard “Dick” Varenhorst, and Lee Vogel are running for the at-large council positions. All five candidates have said they plan to participate.

The forum will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Marion Community Center in the Marion City Building, 203 N. Third St. If the time conflicts with the University of Kansas men’s basketball team competing in the NCAA tournament, the forum will be moved to 3 p.m.

The forum is sponsored by Marion PRIDE and the Marion County Record. The forum will include some prepared questions before opening to questions from voters.
