Marion girls 1st, boys 2nd at relays

The Warriors girls took first place as a team and the boys took second as a team Friday when Marion was host for its annual relays.
Three other county schools — Goessel, Centre, and Peabody-Burns — also competing.
Marion
Caileigh Johnson took second, and Hailey Harshman third in the girls’ pole vault.
Kenna Wesner won the girls’ triple jump.
Sophia Dye took third in girls’ discus, and Jackson Howard took third for the boys. Dye would took bronze in javelin.
Brian Nguyen won the boys’ javelin. Madisyn Hulett took second in girls’ shot put. Tripp Peterson took third in the 100, and Taryn Kraus took third on the 100 hurdles. Taryn went on to win in the 300 hurdles.
Cooper Jirak placed third on 300 hurdles, and Wyatt Soyez placed third on the 200. Dylan Kraus took second for the 400 and the 800. Luke Wessel won the boys 800.
In the 3200, Eli Klenda placed fourth, Logan Amos fifth, and Zayden Janzen sixth.
Marion boys won in the 400 and 800 relay, and the girls won in the 400 relay.
The Warriors next meet will be Thursday at Chase County.
Goessel
Friday’s weather cooperated during the Marion meet, helping some athletes achieve their best finishes of the season.
Delaney Duerksen led the Goessel girls, capturing first in the 100 meter hurdles, second in the 300 meter hurdles and third in the triple jump.
Brooklyn Wuest took first in long jump and second in high jump.
Aimee Funk sprinted to third in the 100 meter dash and took second in long jump.
Freshman Athena Funk took fourth in the 100 meter dash and sixth in the pole vault.
Out of 13 schools that scored points, the Bluebird girls finished second.
Eli Gaeddert helped the Goessel boys with second-place finishes in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, registering his fastest times of the season.
Samuel Zeni leaped into third place in the long jump.
Goessel will be host for its next meet Tuesday.
Centre
The Cougars didn’t have enough athletes to post a team score, but their individual runners made an impact.
Kaitlynn Bina won the 3200 with a time of 13:05.67.
Jaycee Stika placed fourth place in the 100 hurdles.
“With seven athletes competing on Friday evening, we had six personal records and a tie of another,” coach Alan Stahlecker said. “I was pleased with their effort.”
The Cougars will head to Goessel for their next meet of the season Tuesday.
Peabody-Burns
Not many of Peabody-Burns, young and small team fared well at Friday’s relays.
Colin Groff placed ninth in the boys long jump and 20th in the 200.
Adyson Winter placed 17th for girls’ shot put and 21st in the 200.
Coming off an ankle injury, Brooklynn Whiteside placed 27th in the girls’ 100.
Peabody-Burns will head to Goessel for its next meet Tuesday.
Hillsboro
The Trojans did not have a meet over the weekend but will be in action Tuesday in Herington.
