Marion girls post win at Elyria
Girls win, boys fall
Sam Richmond scored 14 points and Kourtney Hansen added 11 to lead the Warrior girls’ basketball team to 47-29 victory Friday night at Elyria Christian.
The Warriors jumped out to a 10-5 lead after the first quarter and kept their foot on the gas for a 19-13 halftime lead and 34-23 heading into the fourth quarter.
With a roster depleted by injury and illness, several Warriors saw increased playing time in fill-in roles, including juniors Eli Hett, Rasso Ruttenaner, and Brandon Nguyen.
The boys were down just two points after the first quarter, but were outscored by six in the final period, falling 61-49.
Marion trailed by nine at halftime and seven to start the final frame.
Chase Stringer and Evann Heidebrecht combined for 26 with 13 points each.
The Warriors’ regular season finale Tuesday against Berean was postponed to Thursday due to inclement weather.
