Marion girls basketball didn’t end last week’s Marion Classic in ideal fashion Saturday but there were definite high notes to Friday’s win over Remington.
The Warriors stuck out a tight 36-34 win, largely thanks to a 13-2 advantage in the second quarter.
Marion closed the first quarter down 6-8, but used its second-quarter performance to set up the win.
The girls had little difficulty finding scoring against Remington.
They notched seven 3-pointers, and spread the ball around enough to get eight players into the scoring column.
Chloe Burkholder dropped 12 points thanks to four 3-pointers, and Jaden Slifer added 11 of her own, including three 3-pointers.
Marion also limited the other team’s chances, allowing just one player more than 10 points while forcing 21 turnovers.
The Warriors final game before Christmas break is Thursday when they travel to face Belle-Plaine.

Boys lose county tilt
Marion boys basketball ended the tournament in a difficult position, suffering a 64-46 to Peabody-Burns on Saturday to give the home team three straight losses.
The Warriors played tight early on, with the score tied 17-17 at the end of the first quarter, but it ended there. The visitors outscored Marion 47-29 in the three remaining quarters.
Peabody-Burns had the advantage with the game’s two highest scorers, but Marion countered with three players in double figures.
Marion did well getting the ball back by forcing 15 turnovers, but only managed to get six players into the scoring column.Marion couldn’t score more than 10 points in the second, third, or fourth quarters. At the same time, the Warriors found themselves in desperate need of charity, going 5-of-13 from the stripe.
The boys’ final game before Christmas break is 7:30 p.m. Thursday when Douglass visits Marion.
