Winning streaks for both the Marion and Goessel girls’ teams reached four Friday night. Centre also won. Peabody-Burns, however, remains winless, and Hillsboro had the night off.

Marion

The Warriors extended their winning streak to four by beating Hutchinson Trinity 38-20 at home Friday night.

“This is a great group, and they work hard and are very coachable and have great team chemistry,” coach Jason Hett said. “We are playing some good basketball right now and playing to our identity.”

Dylan Kraus led the team Friday with a double-double — 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Kate Wessel also put up 14 points to go along with seven rebounds. Brylee Smith scored four and pulled down six rebounds.

“January is a big push with nine games this month, and we are continuing to work to get better and stay focused on our goals,” Hett said.

Marion (5-4) will be on the road Friday against Inman (5-2).

Goessel

Solomon’s girls jumped out to a 4-0 lead Friday, but Goessel’s girls held them scoreless the rest of the first quarter.

Goessel led 12-4 at the end of the first period and 27-9 at halftime.

Mackenzie Voth added to her first-half points by starting the third quarter with five points.

The Bluebirds seemed unfazed by the shot clock for the first time this season as Delaney Duerksen and Hailey Rosfeld connected on three pointers as the clock was running out.

Goessel led 44-10 at the end of three quarters. With a running clock the entire fourth quarter, the Bluebirds coasted to a 47-17 victory.

Voth led Goessel with 19 points followed by Abi Johnson with 9.

The Bluebirds are now 2-0 in Wheat State League games and 5-2 overall. Goessel will be home Friday, playing Canton-Galva (6-3).

Centre

The Cougars beat Wakefield 28-23 on the road Friday night.

Centre (4-4) will be back on the road this Friday against Elyria Christian (1-8).

Peabody-Burns

The Warriors still are looking for their first victory of the season after a 69-9 loss Friday to Little River.

Peabody-Burns (0-5) will be on the road Friday against Wakefield (2-6).

Hillsboro

Hillsboro (6-2) had Friday off and will resume action this Friday at home against Hesston (6-3).
