The Marion High School golf team finished 11th out of 12 teams at the 3A state tournament Monday at Salina.
Senior Landon Leiker shot one stroke higher than his Marion regional winning score, 83, but finished 49th out of 102 golfers. He shot a 37 on the back nine. Leiker followed up a double bogey on the 13th hole to hit birdies on 15 and 16.
However, Leiker shot a 46 on the front nine, including a plus four on hole six.
Senior Adam Molleker was the next highest ranking Warrior at 79th. He shot a round of 91, including a 42 on the front nine.
Sophomore Hogan Lovelady finished 89th with a score of 94. He shot a 43 on the back nine.
Senior Tim Costello finished 94th with a score of 96, two nine hole scores of 48.
Sophomore Wiley Lundy finished 95th with a 97. He shot a 48 on the front nine.
Senior Dane Purkeypile finished 102nd with a score of 115. He shot a 54 on the back nine.
Michael Gellerman of Sterling won the state championship with a score of 65. Every golfer in the top 25 shot below 80.
Unrepresentative of their state placement, Marion golfers shot close to their season averages for the tournament.
