I have just returned from a wonderful weekend of model flying in your town. Yes, we had challenges with the weather, but the warm welcome and hospitality more than made up for the rain.
I have been flying in model meets around the world and have never received a better welcome than in Marion.
We brought four club members from Colorado, as we wanted to show our support to the Heart of America Free Flight Association and their efforts to obtain a new flying field. I am delighted that we did. Marion rolled out the red carpet for us with a great flying site and hospitality.
Marion Economic Development Director Doug Kjellin was the host who exceeded everybody’s expectations. Mike Basta of HAFFA said that Doug was a major contributor to the planning of this event and that he and his family were a great help during the event.
Hamburgers from his grill were world class as was the Saturday evening dinner.
I am looking forward to returning to Marion again next year.
