Librarian Janet Marler is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Wizard of Oz by displaying some pieces of her Wizard of Oz collection at Marion City Library.
“I think I started it when the book came out about 15 years ago,” she said.
She has about 30 Wizard of Oz books and 20 Christmas ornaments. New ornaments are released every year.
Other items include musical things, snow globes, Barbie dolls, tins, lunch boxes, jack-in-the-box, metal and ceramic figurines, and dolls.
Marler has purchased many items online from the Wamego museum and at garage sales. Many are gifts.
The Wizard of Oz was produced in 1939 as a musical fantasy film by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Widely regarded to be one of the greatest films in cinema history, it is the most commercially successful adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s 1900 children’s book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
The movie grew in popularity when it was released in Technicolor on television in 1956.
