Marion regional to feature 4A, 2A

Both Marion and Hillsboro will compete Saturday in a regional meet for Class 2A and 4A runners at Marion’s Big M course. The meet will start at 10 a.m.
Marion
The Warriors completed their final meet of the regular season Thursday at Harvey County East Lake, with the boys placing fifth.
Eli Klenda led the team with a 12th place finish. Luke Wessel was behind him in 15th.
“Eli continues to push himself, and I love his drive to be the best,” coach Jason Hett said. “I know [Wessel] was disappointed in his placing, and will bounce back next week.”
On the girl’s side, Brooklyn Beery finished in 12th, and Izy Branson placed 21st.
“I know this group will be ready to go next week at our home course for regionals,” Hett said.
Hillsboro
The Trojans finished their regular season Thursday at a meet in Larned.
Riley Richert led the girls, placing fourth with a time of 21:19.44. Quinlyn Funk finished seventh, and Jaidyn Frantz 12th.
Goessel
Goessel’s cross country team competed in a combined Wheat State League and Heart of the Plains League meet Thursday at Wedgewood Golf Course in Halstead.
The Goessel boys finished first in the WSL for the eighth year in a row. Eli Gaeddert led the team, capturing first place. Third place went to Levi Olson. Aidan Impson came in 10th.
Elaina Graber secured seventh place with a season-best time.
Goessel will race Saturday in the Class 1A regional at Brown Thrush Park in Wichita.
Centre
Centre runners competed Thursday in the joint meet at Halstead.
Kaitlynn Bina placed second place in both leagues. Kole Kroupa finished 9th in Wheat State and 17th in Plains.
Both will travel Saturday to Sabetha on Saturday for regionals.
“I really enjoyed coaching these runners this year and watching them grow both in and out the sport,” coach Camrin Wleczyk said. “I am super proud of how they competed every single day to better their times every meet.”
