Marion students win music awards

Marion High School band and choir students participated in music festivals April 15 and 19.

Students who received ‘I’ ratings at a solo and small ensemble festival qualified for state competition Saturday at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina.

Their scores were:

1 — Flute trio; Maria Carlson, flute; Singers; women’s choir; and Maria Carlson, vocal solo; Tristen Dye, vocal solo; Sara Groening, vocal solo; and Alyera Koehn, vocal solo.

II — Mixed wind ensemble; Hailey Harshman, flute solo; Keenan Lange, French horn solo; men’s ensemble; Lexi Branson; Sadie Lange; and Hayden Mendoza, vocal solos.

The MHS band and choir each performed two pieces at a State large group music festival April 19 at Smoky Valley High School in Lindsborg.

The choir received a I rating, and the band received a II rating.
