Marion to be site of sub-state

Marion will be host for a Class 2A sub-state basketball tournament culminating March 2.
Seeding of schools for the competition, which will include both Marion and Hillsboro, has not yet been released.
Leading up to the tournament, the Warriors were unable to get revenge Friday against Elyria Christian, losing 61-18 on the road.
“It was just not our night,” coach Donald Raymer said. “It was a struggle after halftime to get anything going.”
Jackson Howard and Kadon Mercer led the team in scoring with four points each.
Jonathan Frese and Jack Lanning each scored three points.
Hillsboro
In back-to-back games, the Trojans lost Thursday at home to Pratt, 51-47, but bounced back Friday to beat Lyons on the road, 59-32.
Lincoln Wichert led the team in scoring with 15 Friday night. Seth Driggers had 12, and Easton Shahan, 11.
“Friday’s game against Lyons brought our team firing on all cylinders,” coach Kyle Kroeker said.“It was great to see our team play a complete game while moving the ball really well.”
Goessel
The Bluebird boys picked up a victory Friday in Wichita, starting slowly but dominating the second and third quarters to defeat Wichita Central Christian, 41-28
Goessel trailed 7-5 at the end of one quarter but led 19-12 at halftime. The Bluebird defense allowed only six points in the third quarter as Goessel coasted to victory.
Noah Schrag scored 25 points and Jack Nickel added 8.
Goessel (9-10) has been seeded fifth in its sub-state tournament, which will begin Thursday at Little River.
Centre
Centre beat Wakefield 64-34 Thursday then lost 60-43 Friday to Chase County.
Kaigen Brewer led the team with 14 points Friday, followed by Robert Spohn with 13 and Santiago Knepp with 10.
“After falling to Chase County earlier in the year, you can see we have improved after the early season matchup, shooting 75% from the free throw line as a team,” coach Richard Idleman said.
Spohn and Dane Meier had six rebounds each. Micah Carlson came up with two steals.
Centre is listed as the fifth seed in its sub-state tournament and will travel Thursday to play fourth seed Hutchinson-Central Christian.
Peabody-Burns
The Warriors closed out their regular season losing 51-25 on the road Friday to St. Xavier.
Peabody-Burns will enter its sub-state as a sixth seed and play third-seed Hartford on the road Thursday.
