Marion track, softball teams win Tuesday

Tuesday night action

The Marion High School girls and boys track teams placed first in the Herington track meet Tuesday in Marion.

Julia Zeiner won the triple, long , and high jumps with distances of 36’9”, 17’7”, and 5’ respectively.

Nick Klenda won the shot put throwing 45’10” and discus, 162’8”.

Colten Johnson won the pole vault clearing 11’6” and throwing the javelin 160’5”.

Kristen Steinborn won the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.25 and threw the javelin 97’2”.

The girls and boys 3200-meter relay teams finished first and the girls 4x400 and 4x100 teams also bested the competition.

Eric Vogel also won the 800 with a time of 2:14.79.

Softball

The Marion softball team won both games against Wichita Collegiate at Marion.

The Warriors won the first game 4-2 on the strength of a complete game, five strikeout performance by Raelene Allen.

In the second game, the Warriors were down 6-1 in the sixth inning and staged a seven-run rally — capped by an RBI triple by Jordan Harper — to take the lead.

The Spartans tied the score in the first half of the second inning, but Alex Cain — also the game’s winning pitcher — smacked a fly ball over the Collegiate center fielder to score Brooke Johnson on a walk off triple to win the game, 9-8.

Baseball

The Marion baseball team lost both games to Wichita Collegiate in Marion.

The Warriors lost the first game, 12-4. Brian Fruechting led the Warriors with a 2-for-3 night at the plate and a run scored.

Marion lost the second game, 19-5.
