Marion volleyball emphasizing unity

Staff writer

Marion setter Chloe Burkholder has already seen improvement in the second year of being coached by her mother, Kris Burkholder.

“We mesh really well together,” Chloe said. “We’ve added different sets for sure.”

While only the beginning of the season, Marion is already looking to develop as a team, Burkholder said.

“We’re definitely looking to improve from where we started, and make sure we’re communicating,” she said.

Anticipation for a competitive season means the team needs to start each match well, Burkholder said.

“We have to look to attack right off the bat,” she said.

On the track of personal achievements, Burkholder’s goal is to improve her success rate on serves. After hitting 90.7 percent last season, she’s looking to drive that number even higher in her final year.

Burkholder will be one of the de facto leaders of the team, with fellow seniors Cameron White and Lilly Lundy.

For White, the goal is just to get back to the hardwood after missing last season.

“I’m coming off of not playing last year during the regular season, but I’m excited to get on the court,” she said.

The Warriors ended hot last season with a run to the Heart of America semifinals, despite finishing a few games below .500 for the regular season.

This year, the Warriors say they are paying extra attention to those team who gave them problems last season.
