Marion wins first round game at state
The Marion High School girls basketball team defeated Beloit 49-44 Thursday in Hutchinson in the first round game of the 3A state tournament.
Sometimes the best athletes step up when the game is on the line and Thursday that athlete was Julia Zeiner.
Zeiner’s skills were on display against the Trojans. She was high scorer in the game with 17 points and tied Lindsay Hett with eight rebounds.
Hett also scored 12 points and tallied three assists. Kayley Heerey and Bridget Lundy also stepped up on the boards, seizing seven and five rebounds respectively.
The Warriors play Winchester-Jefferson County North today at 3 p.m. Marion has a decided height advantage over the Chargers; Winchester’s tallest player is 5-foot-9.
