Marion wins in javelin, 4x100 relay

Marion’s Brian Nguyen took first place in javelin, and Marion boys’ relay team took first in the 4x100-meter relay.
Luke Wessel placed second in the 800- and 400-meter races. Wyatt Soyez placed second in the 200-meter race.
“We could not have asked for a better day for a track and field meet,” coach Grant Thierolf said. “Our boys had a really good day, setting 13 personal records and competing very well.”
For the girls, “it was one of those days where everything seemed a little off, but we figured out ways to compete and to score some points,” Thierolf said.
Dylan Kraus won the 800-meter race. Taryn Kraus placed first in the 300-meter hurdles. Madisyn Hultett placed second in the shot put. The girls’ relay teams placed second in the 4x100-meter races.
The Warriors will have one more regular-season meet Thursday in Sterling before regional and state competition begins.
Centre
Centre competed Thursday at the Steve Hermann invitational. The girls’ team placed sixth out of 10, while the boys placed ninth.
Individually, Kaitlynn Bina won in the 1,600 -and 3,200-meter races. Olivia Carlson won in the 100-meter hurdles. Carlson captured fourth in both the long and triple jump.
On the boys’ side, Micah Carlson placed sixth in the 400 and 10th in the 200-meter races. Julian Resser placed ninth in the 200-meter race.
Centre will have one more meet Thursday in Herington before regional and state competition begins.
Peabody-Burns
The Warriors had athletes at the Steve Hermann invitational, but none finished in the top 10. Regionals for Peabody-Burns are scheduled for May 23.
