Former Pilsen area resident Martha R. Melcher, 96, of Herington, died Feb. 17 at Herington Municipal Hospital.

She was born Aug. 29, 1914, at Cameron, Texas, to Peter and Agnes (Mikula) Konarik.

She lived most of her life in the Pilsen area and was a homemaker.

She married Edward Melcher on April 24, 1934, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen. He preceded her in death Dec. 20, 1991. Two sons, Darrell and Norman; grandson Eddie Morgan; two brothers, Stanley and Rudy Konarik; and a sister, Agnes Klenda, preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Robb of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Doris Morgan of Monett, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mass was Monday morning at St. John’s Catholic Church, Herington. The Rev. Mark Wesley officiated.

Burial followed at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Cemetery, Pilsen.
