Mary Griffith

Mass for Mary Griffith, 79, who died Aug. 3 at Hillsboro Community Hospital, was Aug. 8 at St. Mark Catholic Church, Marion.

Burial was in Griffith Cemetery in Cedar Point.

She was born Oct. 25, 1946, in Hillsboro to Agnes and Rudy Konarik, was a cheerleader at Marion High School, and married John R. Griffith on Aug. 16, 1969, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Pilsen.

After graduating from the University of Kansas, she began her teaching career at Topeka West High School before returning to Marion, where she taught English, speech, debate, and drama.

She also shared her artistic talents by doing the makeup for countless school musicals.

Survivors include her children, John Griffith of Emporia; Bill Griffith of Fruita, Colorado; and Michele Griffith; her brother, Robert Konarik of Pilsen; and her grandchildren.

Her husband, John R. Griffith, and her brother, Al Konarik of Oklahoma City, preceded her in death.
