Masons contribute to Centre scholarship contest

Staff writer

The Masonic Advance Lodge in Florence is showing its support for public education by donating $400 to scholarships for seniors at Centre High School.

Seniors will be questioned during mock interviews from 8:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 19. The top six will be called back for more interviews, out of which three finalists will be chosen and a champion will be selected.

Secretary Les Allison of the Florence lodge will be present to ask questions, along with other corporate and individual sponsors.

Principal Donald Raymer will present scholarships to the first-, second-, and third-place finishers.

Allison will present the Masons’ donation to Raymer in a school assembly at 8:15 a.m. Friday at Centre.

He will also present certificates to exemplary teachers Briana Methvin, Amy Pagenkopf, and Bruce Rhodes and students Anna Godinez Vinduska, Jordy Raymer, Emil Godinez Vinduska, and Braxton Smith.

“We try to get involved in the community,” Allison said. “We appreciate education.”
