Republican Richard E. Wilborn of McPherson filed to run for the 35th District Senate seat.

Clark Shultz, who is running for Kansas Insurance Commissioner, currently holds the seat.

Wilborn retired in 2009 from Farmers Alliance Mutual Insurance Company after working there for 40 years. He now operates Wilborn Consulting. He is a graduate of Kansas State University.

He serves as chairman of the Kansas Insurance Guaranty Association and the McPherson County Republican Party. He is a board member of the Western Guaranty Fund Services group.

His wife, Pamela, is a retired teacher. Together they have two sons and five grandchildren.
