Governor John Carlin paid a brief visit to Marion Friday afternoon to meet area Democrats. A reception was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Morse, 500 N. 3rd St., at 5 p.m. where more than 50 people had gathered to greet the governor.
Marion Cablevision will have three more channels sometime this summer. The additional satellite channels are HBO, CBN, and WTBS, Atlanta. The additional equipment will make it possible to receive six channels from satellites in orbit.
Phil Coleman of Brown-Mackie College, Salina, will be the speaker at Marion High School commencement exercises at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Marion Gymnasium.
The three daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Walt Hett—Melissa Krause, Melinda Helmer, and Melanie Ensey—will be graduating from Wichita State University on Sunday. All three girls have been on the dean’s honor roll for the past two years.
A full page in the issue is devoted to reviews of two productions, “Bye, Bye, Birdie” performed by Marion High School students, and the summer concert of Marion Elementary School, supervised by Pat Stombaugh and Eileen Hiebert. The reviews are written by DeLille Diament, wife of Morton Diament, physician at St. Luke Hospital.
