Five hundred soldiers of the 6th Field Artillery camped here yesterday afternoon. They had expected to stay overnight here but were a day behind schedule so made a night march. They left here about six o’clock and expected to get to Herington sometime after midnight.
W.A. Remmers and Charley Brooker have bought the Wood & Bown grocery and take charge this week. Mr. Wood will remain with the new firm for a month to assist them in “getting the run” of the business. Both retiring and new proprietors are popular with the people of the town. The new firm will be known as the Remmers Grocery Co. Success to them!
The Mutual Telephone company held a meeting at the courthouse last Saturday. It was well attended. They say they expect to push the work on the installation of the system. “Central” will be in the Bradbury building on the corner of Marion and 2nd Street.
George Hauser’s suit against the Rock Island for $120 has been compromised. The railroad pays $75 and costs.
