Public Reception
The Domestic Department of the city schools will give a public reception in the Domestic Science rooms in the Dean Block on Saturday, October 30, from 7:45 to 9:45.
Every one is not only invited, but is urged to come.
Light refreshments will be served by the pupils in this department. Every thing is free. Come and see the practical side of our school work.
Warning
The city marshal asks the Record to say that the ordinance which forbids any connection with the sewer without a license signed by the mayor will be enforced. He says he has been informed that certain parties have not only had the connection made at their places, but that the sewer is being used and that unless this is stopped he will make arrests.
Prominent citizen arrested yesterday for spitting on the sidewalk. Oh, the shattered bulwarks of liberty!
Burglar or burglars broke into Jno McCarty’s store last Friday night and took away a few things—a revolver and some ammunition and possibly other things.
The water-works prospecting well has been sunk on down through the water-bearing gravel and the pumping test indicates a wonderful flow of water. This water-bearing gravel is about twelve feet thick and beneath it is solid rock. The Kansas City engineer has been sent for and under his direction a thorough test will be made. The former test was not considered sufficient as the well had only been sunk four feet into the gravel.
The city council has leased the three rooms above Pollitt and Kleinhammer’s store for three years. The rooms are to be fixed up considerably.
