New Automobile Firm

Robert Meehan and Paul Assman of Tampa have bought the business of the Marion Motor Car Company and have taken charge. They have taken over the lease of the fine quarters in the Thompson building across from the court house. The firm will handle the same cars with which they have been so successful at Tampa—The Great Smith, The Great Western, The E.M.F. Studebaker, The Flanders 20, and The Black Crow.

Chas. Faust got hurt quite severely at the ball game by one of the Hillsboro players running into him.

Mrs. George Penland was on her way to town Saturday when a man came up behind her in an auto and not blowing his horn, ran by her before either she or her horse had noticed him. The horse became frightened, ran into the ditch, upset her egg case and broke a good many eggs. It seems as though so many of the autoists are getting lawless. They might do a small thing like blowing their horn to let the driver of the rig become aware of their presence, so that they would have time to either give them the road or be prepared to hold their horses.

The walk extending from John Powers’ place down the hill to Main street is being torn up and new cement walk will be put in.

Irene Lohrenz stepped on a nail one day last week and was laid up for a few days. The day following, her brother Floyd had the misfortune to have his foot injured by the falling of a heavy part of the machinery at the laundry. So, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lorenz have been entertaining two little cripples the past week. Both are improving at this writing.

A fine rain fell on Monday evening and night of this week. It was quite general over the county and will be worth many thousands of dollars to the farmers. The corn was beginning to need rain very bad in most parts of the county.

Mr. and Mrs. S.D. Pollitt and family are entertaining an auto load of relatives from Manchester, Oklahoma, and an auto load from Anthony, Kansas, at a camping party on the Cottonwood south of town near Mr. H.H. Dunn’s home.

The Evans Electric Company has put up a fine electric sign in front of their place of business.

An accident occurred Monday morning in the erection of the M.B. church in Hillsboro. A scaffolding gave way and in attempting to stop several heavy planks in their fall, Mr. A.W. Zacharius was painfully injured. A 16-penny spike was forced into his right arm by the falling planks.

The City Bakery has procured a new drink called Fan Taz. It is sure a refreshing drink and it pleases everybody.
