Mrs. J.H. Alexander and Miss Sadie Mansfield entertained at six o’clock dinner at the home of Mrs. Alexander on the evening of January 13 in honor of their father, M.L. Alexander, the day being his 63rd birthday anniversary. Mr. Mansfield did not know that the event had been planned. The rooms were dark when he arrived and as soon as he stepped into the house the lights were turned on and he was greatly surprised to see a number of his friends gathered there. The evening was delightfully spent. The guests were George Scott, Bernard Apel, H.S. Martin and C.M. Vaughn.

Earl Elliott has opened a pool and billiard hall with new tables and fixtures in the room recently vacated by the Marion Pharmacy.

Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Roberts had the honor and pleasure of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary January 13. They were married in 1861 and 12 children were born to them, 10 of whom are still living and six of whom, including their youngest daughter, Miss Clara Roberts, were present at the celebration. Mr. Roberts was presented with a gold-headed cane while Mrs. Robert was the recipient of a fine gold wedding ring.

J.A. Livoni accidentally got two of his fingers against a circular saw a few days ago. The doctor fixed them up and Mr. Livoni will not lose either of his fingers, although it will be some time before he will have the full use of them again.

The change in county offices had hardly taken place when things began to happen. For instance, as soon as one of the officers had taken his place the chair gave way and now the county has to buy a bigger and stronger chair for him. Only one guess permitted on this.

The Mehl brothers are having a new house built on their farm one mile north of Marion and Jacob Hett and family will occupy the place about the first of Marion.

Representative Greeley Kyle was down from Topeka over Sunday. He came home sick on Friday and while feeling much better was not entirely himself when he returned on Monday.
