Christmas at the Churches
Great preparations have been made at all of the churches for Christmas festivities. There will be trees and music and candy and nuts and a glorious time generally for the little folks and Santa Claus has promised to bring something for everyone of the children. All churches excepting the German Baptist will have their exercises on Friday evening. The German Baptists will give their program on Saturday evening and the little church on the west side will no doubt be crowded to its utmost capacity. The exercises at all the churches promise to be of unusual interest and it will be well worthwhile to attend somewhere and catch some of the glad Christmas spirit.
Olsen—Sanders
Mr. Wm. Olsen and Miss Elsie Sanders were married at the Evangelical parsonage at Canada, Kansas, on the evening of December 22, 1909. These young people are well and favorably known in our community, the former as the son of Mr. Chris Olsen and Miss Sanders as the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Sander. The young couple will live at the old homestead on Mr. Olsen’s farm, 2¾ miles southeast of Canada. May happiness continually be theirs.
There will be a meeting Tuesday, December 28, at the Business Men’s Club room for the purpose of devising ways and means to abate a recurrence of floods in the city of Marion and vicinity. All ladies and gentlemen interested in the question please meet at the Club Room at 7:30 p.m. of above date.
The contract has been let. The Squire Electric and Construction Company of Kansas City are the successful bidders on the Waterworks and Electric Light Plant and their contract calls for beginning work within ten days and finishing the plant ready for use within four months.
Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Ogden and Miss Grace and Messrs Otto Schmersey and Hero Baldwin went to Canton Sunday in Mr. Ogden’s Studebaker car.
The city engineer has been directed to prepare a plan of the sewer system for the whole city showing the location of all Ys. This map will then be filed with the city clerk where it can be examined by any citizen when he desires to make connection with the sewer from any lot in the city.
Don’t forget the band concert at the Auditorium Christmas evening.
A council committee has been named to decide the matter of the location of the new water tower. The school board is against locating it on or near the school grounds because of the danger to the children from falling ice—to say nothing of the tower itself falling sometime as it did recently. This is the committee: Lewis, Evans, and Freeland.
