Around About Town
The proposition to raise a fund by private subscription to permanently improve Central Park has been generally commended. Quite a number of citizens have agreed to help.
Clyde Harris had a call on Tuesday from Youngtown to do a little piece of repairing on the telephone wire. He mounted his motorcycle and in 60 minutes he was back in Marion—17 miles, repair work done and the roads not extra good either. Goin’ some?
“There’s a modern picture for you,” said one fellow to another on the street, this morning. It was a farmer getting out of his automobile in front of a grocery store with a big basket of eggs.
Wheat harvest is in full blast in the county this week. The wheat and oats are fine and seldom if ever have we had a better prospect for corn.
Move Toward Paving
At the Council meeting Monday evening a resolution was passed to the effect that it is deemed necessary to pave Third street from the Santa Fe tracks north to the Elgin Hotel corner.
Work is progressing rapidly on the big addition being built to the Case block. The stone work for the first story is completed. When this addition is done it will give the Loveless & Sons firm a great deal more room for their big establishment.
The new walk that is to be put down in front of the park will make a great improvement. The walk is to extend from the stone arch bridge east to the Baptist church to join the cement walk there. There is to be an iron rail put in the whole length of the park to take the place of the old fence.
F.L. Dockstader has bought the Rink Livery barn from Mr. Goff, and now has two large barns, the Palace and the Rink.
The automobile which won the cross-continent race the other day from New York to Seattle was a machine like Mr. Josiah Good’s—a Ford, Model T.
