City officers have been making an effort the past week to have alleys and ill-kept lots cleaned up. It is not only an effort to improve the looks of the town but a sanitary necessity and should receive the encouragement and cooperation of the people.

A fine crowd attended the County Meet here last Friday afternoon and evening. Marion won the meet again, with Florence crowding for the honor much of the time. Miesse of Marion was high points winner, taking two firsts and three seconds—a total of 19 points. In the javelin throw, Gail Rutledge broke the former county record by 27 feet 4 inches with a great throw of 167 feet 8 inches and distanced the state high school record by several feet.

Miss Vellah Niederhauser and Mr. Baldy Strang were united in marriage April 19 in Chicago. Mr. Stang is manager of the Lincoln Chautauquas with which Miss Niederhauser was engaged the past season.

Pantle Hardware will hold a demonstration of their 10-20 Tractor and John Deere Traction Plow here on April 29.
