C.C. Johnson has made a handsome business building out of one of the shabbiest buildings on Main street, the old Kellison building, one of the first structures erected on the street. But he had to practically make a new building out of it to do it. By the way, Mr. Johnson has done many things to improve the town. His garage is a fine ornament. Several nice residences are also to his credit. In behalf of the community, “Chet,” thanks.
The big new concrete bridge two miles and a half south of town is nearing completion.
The committees of the golf association have been doing some hard work and the grounds are beginning to get into good shape. It takes quite a while to transform an eighty-acre tract into a suitable place for this sport but fine progress has been made in the short time since the organization was started.
Work of erection of the club house was begun the first of the week. It will be a frame structure about 40 by 48 with a porch along the east side. The porch will command a fine view of the fairways. The foundation was put in by Jeff Thomas and the construction will be done by C.H. Wardlow.
The wheat harvest in this county has been in full swing the past week. The rains of the last two days have stopped the work in some part of the county but in other parts the work has been going right on. From almost every section the reports indicate a wonderful crop this season.
Next Sunday is Automobile Sunday at the Christian Church. This is the day you are to head your auto toward church. Bring it full of people. We will see what make of cars will be most numerous. Also what make of cars and whose car will bring the most people to Bible school.
The heavy work of the peace officers of the county has been taxing the capacity of the county jail for some moths. The jail has only bed accommodations for nine prisoners, we are told, and when more than that are confined there, as has been the case many times, beds have to be made on the floor.
