The City of Marion approved annexation of about 400 acres Monday, consisting of the quarry operation just northeast of Marion. Owners are Geraldine Williams and Rocky and Shirley Jo Hett. Currently the property is leased as a quarry by Martin-Marietta Aggregates.
Marion County has gained another building on the National Register of Historical Places. Doyle Place, a ranch house near Florence built in 1881, was placed on the register on Oct. 11. The home is now owned by Randy and Judy Mills.
Nine Athena Study Club members enjoyed lunch and an interesting afternoon Oct. 17 at the Benton Antique Mall and Restaurant.
Marion Middle School girls’ volleyball A team won its second consecutive Cottonwood Valley Junior League title Oct. 16. Team members are Alison Cady, Chelsi Carlson, Toni Gordon, Jill Hannaford, Allison Maddox, Molly Rhodes, Amber Richmond, Leann Thomas, Alissa Vogel, Whitney Wear, Sarah Williams, Katie Zogelman, and Mindy Mastin.
Crew with the City of Marion placed steel beams Thursday as part of support grid above Stone City Café. A portion of an inside supporting wall in an adjacent building collapsed this past week, causing the building to be evacuated.
