Marion County Planning Commission recommended approval Thursday for a conditional use permit for a greyhound farm. Kevin and Javonni Gresham, Maize, want to move their greyhound operation to 40 acres in Durham Park Township. They raise and train greyhounds up to one year old. Durham is much closer to greyhound operations in Dickinson County, they said.

An open house at St. Luke Hospital and Living Center Aug. 27 will offer tours of the facility, including the radiology suite that is nearing completion.

Lauren Helmer, 14-year-old freshman at Andover High School, was selected as one of the top 10 finalists in the Miss Teen of Kansas pageant held July 21-23 in Wichita. Lauren is the daughter of Ken and Melinda Helmer of Wichita and granddaughter of Jack and Sylvia Helmer and Jackie Hett of Marion.

Greg Jirak, a native of the Tampa community, has been promoted to lieutenant in the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Many Marion senior citizens met Friday at senior center to celebrate the 20th anniversary of groundbreaking for the center on July 23, 1980. A large member of people who were present and participated in the groundbreaking and construction were at the meeting.
