City of Marion Commissioners passed a resolution Monday commending Alex Case Jr. for his service in the community. Members of his family were present to receive the resolution presented by Mayor Max Hayen. Case, who is suffering from pancreatic cancer, was unable to attend.

Lin Slifer of Marion is launching his career as an independent electrician this week with the establishment of LinCo Electrical Services and Contracting. The business office is located 113 S. Second St., Marion, in the building owned by Merle Flaming of Flaming’s Inc.

Evelyn and Alton Matz of Lincolnville, who were married Feb. 18 at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at a family gathering.

Jacob Unruh of Goessel Junior High won the Marion County Spelling Bee held Thursday in Marion. Marion Elementary student Hank Collett placed second. Katherine Fleming, Goessel Elementary student, was third and received the Maude Thompson Award.

Florence rancher and community leader Randy Mills was selected as a director of the Kansas Angus Association during the group’s meeting Jan. 19 in Hutchinson.
