City of Marion commissioners voted for a resolution Monday, which, if approved by voters April 2, will create an additional 75 percent (3/4 cent) retail sales tax on purchases made in Marion. The tax will be earmarked to provide funding for the infrastructure of Batt Industrial Park on the north edge of Marion.
Cindy Ellis of Florence has been selected to play the part of Mrs. Splinters in the upcoming production of “The Tender Love” to be given at the McCain Auditorium on the campus of Kansas State University Thursday through Saturday.
Tampa State Bank gave away $100 a day for four days in its main bank in Tampa and in its branch in Marion. Daily winners in Tampa were Ken Teetzen, Ed Belton, Lola Teetzen, and Monica Leihy. Winners in Marion were Roger Hannaford III, Carolyn Woerz, Dan Crumrine, and Jan Davis. Mary Costello presented the bills in observance of the bank’s 100th anniversary celebration.
The Feb. 20 meeting of Athena Study Club featured a humorous skit directed and narrated by Lola Wheeler. Characters were played by Erna Mae Yeagley, Ruth Viets, Ruth Jo Penner, and Bernadine Westerhaus.
Warrior grappler Chris Byers ended his career at the Class 3-2-1A state wrestling meet at Hays Feb. 24 as the winningest Warrior wrestler with a 23-7 record.
