Citing the Chingawassa Days committee’s decision not to pursue beer sales in Central Park, the Marion City Commission voted Monday to provide concert buttons to all city employees. Administrator Dennis Nichols said, “We think providing one button will encourage the employees to purchase another for their spouses.” This will offset the revenue a beer garden would have generated.
An English tea party, sponsored by Pat Wick and Jessica Gilbert of Ramona, was held Saturday at the Lutheran parish hall in Ramona. At least 48 women, mostly from Marion and Dickinson counties, attended.
Robert Hagans, Overland Park, brother of Mrs. Alex Case Jr. of Marion, will be awarded the Alumni Medallion Saturday at K-State’s 2001 commencement. The award is the highest honor given to K-State graduates and recognizes lifetime professional and humanitarian service.
About 160 children, plus teachers, parents, and a few little brothers and sisters, attended a sleepover Friday at Marion Elementary School. Highlight of the evening was a visit from Kip and Stacy Smith of Omaha, Neb., who brought a number of exotic animals to the delight of those present.
Marion Chamber of Commerce businesses, Tampa State Bank, Carlsons’ Grocery, and Scully Estates, will host a “business after hours” May 18 at Tampa State Bank.
