A dedication ceremony June 3 in Pilsen in honor of Capt. Emil J. Kapaun has been designated by the Department of Defense as a 50th Anniversary of the Korean War Commemoration Partner. The memorial Mass and ceremony are open to the public.

May 9 was community service day for Marion High School students. Groups of students walked around town picking up trash, cleaning windows, and doing other things to give the town a neater appearance. Pictured rebuilding a rock wall just north of Jean Case’s home are Heath Tajchman, Steven Janzen, Robert Verbic, Brian Bina, Jacob Taylor, Trent Becker, Andrew Brookens, Jarvis Whiteman, Eric Smith, and Clayton Chamberland.

Wayne Conyers has been named Professor of the Year at McPherson College. An associate professor of art at the college, Conyers is the son of Vivian and Harold Conyers of Marion.

Jeannine Bateman attended the spring conference of the Kansas County Treasurer’s Association in Wichita from Wednesday through Friday. She also received a bachelor’s degree in business administration in accounting Sunday morning at the WSU commencement exercises.

Rosse and Janice Case met Tammy, J.L., and Lisa Stone of Overland Park at Lake Perry Sunday for a day of sailing in the Stones’ new sailboat. They also were celebrating Mother’s Day, Rosse’s birthday, and the Stones’ wedding anniversary.
