A first-class display of colorful aerial fireworks pleased an audience of several thousand spectators Sunday night who were parked around the shoreline of Marion County Park and Lake. The Marion County Commission and the Marion County Economical Development Council provided the show free to the public.

The Florence Historical Society won first place in the Florence Labor Day parade. Second place winner was the entry of Doyle Creek Land and Cattle.

Hett’s Plus won the Marion County Slow-Pitch tournament Aug. 12 at Marion. Team members are Jeff Richmond, Kelly Robson, Stacey Sanders, David Hett, Brent Boyer, Corey Burton, Brent Cain, Doug Heerey, Jerry Ray Hett, Gary Hett, Sean Spoontz, Russ Cain, and Jim Darrow.

First place in the Burdick Labor Day parade floats went to the Walter Otte family. Second to Lois Peterson as “Shorty”, and third to the Burdick Meat Locker.

Homer and Jean McKellips, operators of Marion Mini-Mall, have decided to retire, for the second time. They have been running the mini-mall the past four years for their friends, Jim and Bernice Beach.
